It sure was a busy week in Room 217! We made a salt and flour dough map of N.Y.S. which we will paint this week. The map shows the major mountains, Mohawk and Hudson Rivers, the Finger Lakes, Albany and NYC. In Science, we examined seeds that the students found and we are sprouting Lima beans! This week we will look closely at the parts of a flower. In math we will finish up the Numbers in Base Ten standards with addition and subtraction of large numbers. We will then do a short unit on metric measurement before heading into multiplication and division. We will begin Lesson 4 in Journeys and I will attempt to attach the family letter in another post. :) In writing we continue with narrative writing. Our focus has been on story structure, author's purpose, voice and the use of dialogue.
We also had picture day on Wednesday, Fire Safety Day on Friday and we completed the first round of Aimsweb tests which are an RTI screening tool the district is using on all students 3 times a year.
Don't forget- no school on Oct. 13th for Columbus Day and our field trip is October 23rd. Have a great week!
