I hope you all had an enjoyable February break. A huge thanks to all families for our successful Cultural Celebration! We had a great turnout of people attending and donating food items. The children were so proud of their work. I have uploaded pictures from the day onto the class photo page of this site. I am still working to get the Google slide presentations loaded.
Here is an update on what we will be working on in Room 102. In math we finish up finding the area of rectangles and composite figures this week. We have been reviewing all 3rd grade math skills through the homework and math stations. Next up will be fractions! We will first look at fractions as parts of a whole (think pizza slices) and will then use a number line to label and find fractions. In science we will do a short unit on the circulatory system (this ties in with our other body systems studies- skeletal and digestive). In writing we will be looking at biographies and the students will be writing a biography on a contemporary person- ask your child their person. Our culminating biography project will be to turn the research into a 1st person narrative and we hope to use the chatterpix program to video each child impersonating their research person and telling their life story. This week’s Journeys story is an informational text about how inventions have changed sports- with a focus on adaptive athletes.
There are a few upcoming school events:
Monday Feb. 28th- the One Book One School program begins- each family will receive a book from the PTA to read together. I encourage all to participate- it can count on the reading log!
Friday March 4th- PTA Family Night out with Chinese Acrobats
Friday March 11th- Math Night for grades 2-5 (great fun for all)
